Privacy Policy
We collect what we need to teach you, score you and run battles, study rooms and focus sprints. We do not sell your personal data. Other students can see some of it (your name, username, XP and online status). Your questions to the AI lecturer are processed by Google's Gemini service. You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time.
Rovea is a study platform for university students. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who can see it, and what choices you have. It applies together with our Terms of Service.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Rovea is the controller of the personal data described here. You can contact us at adekunleadepoju916@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: first name, last name, email address, username and password (stored in hashed form, never as plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and basic Google profile information.
- Academic profile: school, department, level, semester and the courses you choose, plus your study timetable.
- Your activity and answers: lessons and topics you complete, quiz and test answers and scores, practice test results, grades and feedback, and your XP and streak.
- Messages to the AI lecturer: the questions you type when you ask for an explanation.
- Study room messages: text and emoji you send in a room chat (see section 5).
- Terms acceptance: the time you accepted our terms and which version.
Information we record as you use Rovea
- Battles: rooms you create or join, matches played, results, team and tier, and your battle history and stats.
- Focus sprints: your stake, chosen duration, start and end times, whether you finished, strikes, and records of when the app detected you left or came back. To do this, your browser tells us whether the Rovea page is visible and in focus, and Rovea may ask your device to keep the screen awake while a sprint runs.
- Study rooms: which room you are in, when you joined or left, and your invites.
- Online status: while a Rovea page is open, your device sends a short signal every so often so we can show you as "online". This is kept only briefly.
- Usage statistics: time spent in parts of Rovea (for example lessons, tests, battles, or listening to a lesson aloud) and the days you were active. We use our own tool for this, not a third-party analytics service.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser and device type, and error logs, used for security and to keep the service working.
Notifications (optional)
If you switch on notifications, we store a subscription from your browser or device (a technical address provided by your browser's push service) and your notification choices, so we can send invites, nudges and reminders. You can switch this off at any time from the menu.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to show you adverts.
4. What other students can see
- Leaderboards: your name (or username) and XP, and your rank within your department.
- Search and invites: if a student is in a study room and searches for classmates to invite, they can find you by name or username. The results show your name, username, department and level.
- Online now: your username can appear in an "Online now" list so others can invite you to a battle.
- Battles: your username, team, answers in a match, results, wins and tier. Public battle rooms can be seen in the live rooms list. Private rooms are join-by-code only.
- Study rooms: your name, your status in a round (for example focusing, away or finished), and your messages are visible to the other members of the room. Your stake amount is not shown to them.
Please use a username you are comfortable with other students seeing.
5. Study room chat
Room chat is not saved in our database. Recent messages are held temporarily in server memory so that people who join can see them, and they are lost when the room closes or our servers restart. Other members can still copy or screenshot what you write, so do not share anything private.
6. Who else processes your data
We use trusted service providers to run Rovea. They process data on our behalf.
- Google: handles sign-in with Google. Its Gemini AI service processes the lesson material, your questions to the AI lecturer, and your written test answers, to generate lessons, replies and marks. We send only what is needed for each request and not your email address or password.
- Supabase: hosts our database, where your account and study records are stored.
- Render: runs the Rovea application.
- Browser push services: if you switch on notifications, your browser's push service (for example, Google or Apple) delivers them.
- Content delivery services: to display fonts and some page features (such as maths and charts), your browser loads files from services such as Google Fonts and jsDelivr. These services can see your IP address and browser details when your browser asks for those files.
We may share aggregate, non-identifying usage statistics (for example, the number of active students) with partners or sponsors. We do not share your name, email or any information that identifies you with them. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of Rovea and its users.
7. Moving data abroad
Our providers may store or process data in countries outside Nigeria. When this happens, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards, as required by Nigerian data protection law.
8. Cookies and browser storage
- Essential cookies: keep you signed in and protect forms from forgery. Rovea cannot work without them.
- Saved settings on your device: your light or dark theme, lesson text size, voice speed, sound mute choice, and whether you dismissed the install banner. A few temporary items (such as your unread room-message count) last only while the browser tab is open.
- Offline support: Rovea installs a service worker so the app can load faster and show an offline page.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
9. How long we keep your data
- Account, profile and study records: while your account is active, and for a reasonable time after, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Online status: about a minute, then it expires.
- Study room chat: not saved long-term (see section 5).
- Terms acceptance records: for as long as needed to show what you agreed to.
- When we delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data, except what we must keep for legal reasons or to prevent abuse. Aggregate statistics that no longer identify you may remain.
10. Keeping your data safe
We use measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and limited access to our systems. No online service is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your account private. If we learn of a breach that puts your data at risk, we will take steps to contain it and notify you and the authorities where the law requires.
11. Your rights
Under Nigerian data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- ask us to delete your data, or to restrict how we use it;
- object to uses based on our legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable format, where it applies;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example by switching off notifications (this does not affect what we did before).
To use any of these rights, or to delete your account, email adekunleadepoju916@gmail.com from the address on your account. We may ask you to confirm it is you. If you think we have handled your data unfairly, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
12. Age
Rovea is for university students. You must be at least 16 to use it (or the age of digital consent where you live, if higher). If you believe a younger child has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Rovea changes. We will update the date at the top, and for important changes we will let you know in the app.
