Terms of Service

Version 2026-10-28 · Applies to everyone who uses Rovea

The short version

Rovea is a study tool. Lessons and grades are written by AI and can be wrong, so check anything important with your lecturer and textbooks. XP is points, not money. Be decent in study rooms and battles, and don't cheat the system. The full terms are below.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Rovea ("Rovea", "we", "us"). By creating an account, signing in with Google, or using Rovea, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Rovea.

2. What Rovea is

Rovea is a study platform for university students. It gives you:

  • Lessons taught by an AI lecturer, in short parts, based on your own lecturer's course materials.
  • Quizzes after each topic, and practice tests and compulsory course tests.
  • XP, streaks and leaderboards that reward studying.
  • Focus Sprints, where you stake XP on staying focused for a set time.
  • Study rooms for group chat and group focus rounds.
  • Battles, team quiz contests against other students.

Rovea is independent. It is not run by, endorsed by, or part of any university, faculty or lecturer.

3. Who can use Rovea

  • You must be at least [16] years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher.
  • Rovea is built for university students. You should choose your real department, level and semester, because your timetable and courses depend on them.
  • If you use Rovea on behalf of anyone else, you must have their permission.

4. Your account

  • You can sign up with a username and password, or with Google. Give accurate details and keep them up to date.
  • Keep your password and your Google account secure. You are responsible for everything done through your account.
  • One person, one account. Do not share your account, sell it, or create extra accounts to gain XP or leaderboard places.
  • Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.
  • Your name and username may be visible to other students (see section 11).

5. Lessons, quizzes and tests: how to use them

5.1 AI-generated lessons

Lessons are written by AI from your lecturer's slides, then checked by automated tools and by Rovea staff before they are published. Even so, they may contain mistakes, leave things out, or explain something differently from your lecturer. Rovea is a study aid, not a replacement for lectures, your lecturer's notes, textbooks or official course materials. If Rovea and your lecturer disagree, your lecturer is right.

5.2 Questions to the AI lecturer

You can ask the AI lecturer to explain something again. Answers are generated automatically and may be wrong. There is a daily limit on these questions (currently 10 per day for students), and it may change. Your messages to the lecturer are processed by an AI service provider to produce a reply.

5.3 Quizzes, practice tests and grading

  • Multiple-choice answers are marked automatically. Written answers are marked by AI against a marking scheme.
  • AI marking can be imperfect. Scores, letter grades and feedback in Rovea are practice feedback only. They are not official grades, do not count towards your degree, and do not predict your real exam results.
  • Compulsory tests in Rovea control your progress through a course inside Rovea. They have no connection to your university's assessments.

5.4 No guarantees

We do not promise that using Rovea will improve your grades, or that the content covers everything in your exam.

6. XP, streaks and leaderboards

  • XP and streaks are points inside Rovea. They have no cash value, cannot be sold, transferred or exchanged for money, and are not property you own.
  • We may change how XP is earned and how leaderboards work, and we may correct, reduce or reset XP where we find a bug, an error or cheating.
  • Restarting a week refunds or removes the XP earned in that week, as shown when you restart it.
  • Leaderboards may be limited to your department or reset on a schedule. Your name and XP may appear on them to other students.

7. Focus Sprints

A Focus Sprint lets you stake some of your XP on staying focused in Rovea for a time you choose. By starting one, you agree to the rules shown on the confirmation screen, which currently work like this:

  • Stake and duration. Your stake is taken from your XP when the sprint starts. Non-staff sprints must be at least 1 hour long (this minimum may change).
  • Finish and double. If you stay for the full time, your current stake is doubled and paid to you.
  • Away budget and strikes. Rovea detects when you leave the app, switch tabs or switch to another application. Time away is added up. When your total time away reaches 10 minutes, you get a strike and your stake is halved. You can then keep going or stop and take back the reduced stake.
  • Stopping early. You can end a sprint at any time and get your current stake back, with no bonus.
  • Timer. Time you spend away does not count towards your sprint time. The sprint finishes later by the amount of time you were away.
  • Technical problems. Presence is detected by your browser and device, which are outside our control. A lost connection, a closed tab, a phone call, a crashed browser or a flat battery can count as time away. We are not responsible for XP lost this way. If you think a sprint was wrongly penalised because of a fault on our side, contact us and we will look into it.
  • Focus Sprints use only XP. No real money is ever staked.

8. Study rooms

  • A study room holds up to 10 students. Anyone with the room code or link can ask to join, so share it only with people you trust. Treat room codes like passwords.
  • The host can start group focus rounds and remove members. Hosting passes to another member when the host leaves. A room closes when only one person is left, and members who are inactive for a long time are removed.
  • Room chat is for text and emoji. Chat history is kept temporarily in server memory so that new members can see recent messages. It is not stored long-term and is lost when our servers restart, but other members may still copy or screenshot what you write. Do not share anything you would not want others to keep.
  • Joining a group focus round is optional and uses the same sprint rules as section 7, with your own stake.
  • You can invite other students by searching their name or username. Invites and "nudges" may be sent as in-app prompts or, if the person turned them on, as notifications. Do not use them to spam or pressure anyone.

9. Battles

  • Battles are team quiz contests with rules for each mode (for example, scoring, timers and bonus questions), shown before a match starts.
  • If you leave or disconnect during a match, you cannot rejoin it. Your team plays on without you and, in a one-on-one match, your opponent wins. A good connection is your responsibility.
  • Battle questions come from an approved question bank. Questions or answer keys can occasionally be wrong. We may remove questions at any time but are not obliged to reverse a result because of a disputed question.
  • Spectators may watch but not message players. Room hosts may set a room as public or private. Public rooms can be seen in the live rooms list.
  • Battle results, wins, tiers and rankings are stored and may be shown to other students.
  • While you are on Rovea, your username may appear to other students in an "online now" list so they can invite you to a battle or study room.

10. Rules of conduct

When you use Rovea, you agree not to:

  • Cheat XP, streaks, battles or leaderboards. This includes scripts, bots, auto-clickers, exploiting bugs, using several accounts, or arranging results with other players.
  • Bypass or tamper with Focus Sprint detection, daily limits, test controls or any security feature.
  • Harass, threaten, bully, discriminate against or embarrass other students, or send spam, offensive, sexual, hateful or illegal content in chats, names or usernames.
  • Impersonate anyone, or use a name or username that misleads others or belongs to someone else.
  • Copy, scrape, download in bulk, republish, sell or share lessons, quizzes, question banks or other Rovea content, or use them to train another AI system.
  • Share live exam questions or use Rovea to cheat in any real exam.
  • Attack, overload, probe or reverse-engineer Rovea, or try to reach another person's account or data.
  • Use Rovea for anything unlawful.

We may remove content, remove you from a room, reset XP, restrict features, or suspend or close your account if you break these rules or put others at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why.

11. Information about you

We collect and use information about you as explained in our Privacy Policy. In summary, we store your account and profile details (such as name, username, email, department, level and semester), your learning activity (such as topics completed, quiz and test results, XP and streak), your messages to the AI lecturer, and battle and sprint records. We also measure, in aggregate, how much time is spent on different parts of Rovea. Some of this, such as your name, XP, department ranking, battle results and online status, is visible to other students as described in these terms.

12. Notifications

If you turn on push notifications, we may send you reminders, invites, nudges and similar alerts. You can turn them off at any time in the menu or in your device settings.

13. Content and ownership

  • Rovea's software, design, names and the lessons, quizzes and question banks we produce belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use them for your own study.
  • Course materials, such as lecturers' slides, belong to their authors or institutions. Rovea uses them to prepare study content. Rovea does not claim ownership of them.
  • You keep ownership of what you write (such as chat messages and answers). You give us permission to store, process and display that content as needed to run Rovea, including sending it to our AI providers to generate replies and marks.
  • If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

14. Paid features

Rovea may introduce paid plans or features. If we do, the price, what is included and how to cancel will be shown to you clearly before you pay, and any extra payment terms will apply to that purchase. Nothing in Rovea is charged to you unless you have agreed to a price first.

15. Availability and changes to Rovea

We work to keep Rovea running, but we cannot promise it will always be available, fast or free of errors. Rovea may be slow or offline during maintenance, outages or when our hosting service restarts. Restarts can interrupt live features, such as study room chat, battles and sprint timers. We may add, change or remove features, courses or content at any time.

16. Disclaimers

Rovea is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we do not make promises about the accuracy, completeness or suitability of any lesson, quiz, grade, feedback or other content, or that Rovea will meet your needs or be uninterrupted or error-free.

17. Limits on our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, Rovea and the people who run it are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of grades, marks, opportunities, data, XP or profits arising from your use of Rovea or from relying on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, or any rights you have under consumer-protection law.

18. Ending your use of Rovea

  • You can stop using Rovea at any time. To delete your account and data, contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
  • We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, or if we have to stop running Rovea.
  • Sections that by their nature should continue after your account ends (such as ownership, disclaimers and limits on responsibility) will continue.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the version date above and ask you to review and accept the new version before you carry on using Rovea. If you do not accept, you should stop using Rovea.

20. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Please contact us first at [CONTACT EMAIL] so we can try to sort out any problem informally. If we cannot, the courts of [STATE/JURISDICTION, e.g. Lagos State] will have jurisdiction, unless your local consumer law gives you the right to go elsewhere.

21. Contact

Questions, complaints or requests about these terms or your data: [CONTACT EMAIL].
